The Establishment of the Chinese Teaching Site of Confucius Institute at University of Dhaka in Bangladesh University of Professionals

On the afternoon of January 26, 2018, the Chinese teaching site of Confucius Institute at University of Dhaka--- Center for Modern Languages of Bangladesh University of Professionals, held Opening Ceremony of Spring Semester 2018. It was hosted by Professor Rafique ,the director of Center for Modern Languages .The Acting Chancellor, Professor Kashem, attended and addressed the ceremony .The Chinese director of Confucius Institute at University of Dhaka and other teachers were invited to attend the ceremony.

Bangladesh University of Professionals, a public university, established in Bangladesh in 2008 is a unique public university run by the armed forces with upholding the motto "EXCELLENCE THROUGH KNOWLEDGE". The youngest university is confident in furthering the knowledge in the field of national security, technology and modern science to achieve the desired human resources development of the country. Center for Modern Languages (CML) has language courses including: Arabic, Burmese, Chinese, French and Turkish.

In the summary report, Director of Center for Modern Languages (CML), Professor Rafique specially mentioned of the new cooperative project with Confucius Institute at University of Dhaka--- the Chinese teaching site, which was signed in January, 2018. It will train high-level personnel with Chinese language skills for special groups in Bangladesh ( officers and senior administrative officials).

 After the ceremony, the Chinese director of Confucius institute and the teacher in charge of the cooperation project jointly taught a special Chinese course for the first group of students. In the class, the Chinese director used a simple diagram to illustrate the pictographic characteristics of Chinese characters; She expounded some similarities of Chinese and Bengali languages by using the words “Cha” and “Chao mian” to greatly enhance the confidence of learners in learning Chinese.

Confucius Institute at University of Dhaka was established on November 5, 2015. It is the second Confucius Institute under the collaboration between University of Dhaka and Yunnan University. It was unveiled by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Oct.14,2016.
